One week ago Wanty extended the contract with sprinter Roy Jans and made it clear that they want to build a sprint train around the young Belgian. Yesterday he almost paid back their confidence with a win when he sprinted to third in the Chateauroux Classic de l'Indre.
Wanty have done nothing to hide that they believe in a big future for sprinter Roy Jans who finished third in the Belgian championships earlier this year. Last week they extended his contract and yesterday he nearly took a big win when he finished third in the Chateauroux Classic Classic de l'Indre.
"The day was very tactical," he told Directvelo. "Two laps from the finish, I nearly went down in a crash with Andrew Fenn. The team worked really well to put me into position. Michel Kreder and Davide Napolitano did a fantastic job. I lost a teammate in the final 180-degree turn.
"It's a shame to take another podium. I think I had the legs to win. Last week I renewed my contract for two years with the team. I feel relieved. My next races will be the Tour du Poitou-Charentes, the Brussels Cycling Classic and the Grand Prix de Fourmies."
