Jonathan Bellis has announced on Twitter that he is retiring from professional cycling. The British rider will retire at the age of 27.

He started his pro career in 2008 with the CSC Pro Team. He rode for the Danish team for four seasons. He defended the An Post-Sean Kelly's colours in 2012 and was with Christina Watches (2014) and One Pro Cycling (2015) in the final years of his career. Bellis enjoyed a highlight when he was in Beijing at the 2008 Olympic Games.

"I would like to announce my retirement from professional cycling, thanks to everyone who has supported on this incredible journey," he tweeted. "The decision was made because of the injuries I received in 2009 my body will not allow me to reach the level I was at prior to the accident. It's a sport I love and really passionate about so naturally I would like to stay involved in some form in the future."

His best result was a 3rd place in the U23 World Championships road race.
