After his surprise defeat at last year's race, Bob Jungels (Trek) is back in the Luxembourg TT champion's jersey after he won today's national championships. The pre-race favourite beat Jempy Drucker (Wanty) by 50 seconds while his teammate Laurent Dider was 1.13 behind in third.
Bob Jungels is widely regarded as one of the biggest TT talents in the world and after he won the Luxembourg TT championships in both 2012 and 2013 he was tipped to dominate the competition for several years. However, he was surprisingly defeated in 2014 when his Trek teammate Laurent Didier uåset the favourite.
Lining up on the back of a 6th place at the Tour de Suisse, Jungels was the big favourite to reclaim the title in today's 2015 edition of the championships and he fully lived up to expectations. Covering the 24.6km course in Eschweiler in a time of 33.42, he was 50 seconds faster than Drucker and 1.13 faster than defending champion Didier.
Jungels will wear the champion's jersey in the first stage of his debut Tour de France. On Sunday he will combine forces with Didier in a quest to keep the road race championships within the Trek ranks despite the absence of their injured teammate, defending champion Frank Schleck.
