Bob Jungels, who was double Luxembourg National Champion winning both the time trial and road, started this weekend his first Tour de France. Last season, he had not chance at the Vuelta a Espana. Indeed, he crashed and prematurely ended his season. On the Trek Factory team website, he explained how he feels to be present on the most prestigious sporting events on the planet.
"It's pretty special. I mean, I think the Tour is so special, just what you hear about it. For now, for me, I am treating it like a normal race", he explained. "I have roomed a lot with Andy and Fränk (Schleck) and we talked a lot about it, and it's a race that I have been following for maybe 15 years already. It's pretty special to be part of it as it is the dream of every young rider I think. You realize it's the biggest event of the year, and it's not only the race that's going on - that's what you hear from the others who have done it - that it's a big circus. There will be more pressure."
What are his personal goals for the Tour de France ? He answered. "I have to protect the leaders in the first week, and even in the last two weeks. I really hope that I can be the last guy with them to guide them into the final climbs. And yeah, if I have a chance to go for a breakaway, I am going to grab it. I mean the big goal would be to win a stage. It's always a little bit of a lottery out of a breakaway, but still I think that should be my goal to achieve."
