If Vincenzo Nibali is to win the 2014 Tour de France, he will need Tanel Kangert to be at his best to help him win.

The core of Nibali’s Tour team started their season in San Luis, Argentina this week where the goal was to get a solid block of training in.

Kangert talked Cyclingnews about his goals for 2014:

"Right now I have the Tour de France in my program, a race I've never done before so obviously I want to do good there. I also have one little dream of my own - to do the Classics. It's my sixth year as a pro this year and I've never even participated in them. I look forward to the Ardennes Classics."

When asked to clarify if he had any ambitions for Classics on the pave of Belgium and France, Kangert was quick to respond:

"Cobbles are a real man's race," he laughs "I have nothing to do with that."

He has great potential to do well in a Grand Tour himself, as he can climb and time trial (x3 Estonian TT champ). He is also very good at shorter stage races; he was 6th in the Tour de Suisse and 9th in the Tour of Poland.

While he was pleased with his 2013, he missed winning a road race and he aims to make amends for this in 2014. 

There is potential for sole leadership of Astana in this year’s Vuelta too. This could be the year Kangert sheds his super-domestique tag and becomes an outright GC contender. This is very achievable. You only have to look at Chris Froome for evidence of that. One thing is certain though, and that is that Kangert will give 110%, whether it's for Nibali or himself.
