The Katusha Team had a good day. Daniel Moreno finished 2nd and Joaquím Rodriguez finished 9th. Furthermore Daniel Moreno is in the lead of the points classification.

Todays 166 km stage ended with the 14 km mountain, Alto de Peñas Blancas. The average gradient of the mountain is 6,6 per cent and the maximum gradient is 12,5 per cent. Daniel Moreno did the best he could but wasn’t able to follow the winner, Netapp-Endura’s Leopold König.

“In the final part I wasn't able to catch König,” Moreno said, “but I have to admit I was at full gas so I did my best. RadioShack-Leopard kept a great pace from the beginning, then Basso attacked in the final part and he was incredibly strong. I think he's in a great shape and he will be one of the protagonists of this competition. Anyway, both Purito [Rodriguez] and I have good feelings and we make a parallel race in order to take advantage of every chance. Tomorrow in Valdepenas de Jaen there will be another stage suitable to Joaquím and I, and we want to make a good result.”

Joaquím Rodriguez’s strategy was to stick to the favourites, Valverde and Nibali. After today’s stage the Spaniard had his mind on tomorrow’s stage which ends in Valdepenas. Rodriguez has once before in 2011 won a stage which ended in Valdepenas.

“Today was quite a calm stage,” Rodriguez said, ”at the end Moreno went with the group of Basso and I stayed with the other favourites, Valverde and Nibali. In the last meters, both Alejandro and I decided to attack in order to gain some seconds. I know tomorrow's stage very well, since I won in Valdepenas in 2011. It's a very demanding climbing, suitable to my characteristics; I have good feelings so I will try something for sure. But it won't be easy because all the other favourites proved today to be in good shape: it wasn't such a hard stage that nobody could mark a big difference, but the final part was difficult and everybody proved that they can stay ahead”.
