KATUSHA WILL BE THE 23rd TEAM AT THE START

Team Katusha will take part in the forthcoming Giro d’Italia that will be staged from May 4 - 26, starting in Naples and finishing in Brescia.
Katusha has now officially been added to the list of teams participating at the Corsa Rosa, as originally announced on January 8 by the organizers RCS Sport / La Gazzetta dello Sport.

When the UCI defined the 18 ProTeams late last year, Team Katusha was excluded from the list.

On January 8, to give all teams the opportunity to better organize their season, RCS Sport announced the 4 wildcard teams of the Giro d’Italia 2013. Meanwhile, the Russian team had lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

On February 15, the CAS upheld the appeal. On February 18, the UCI, having taken note of the decision of the CAS, granted Katusha a ProTeam license and, rewriting their rules, chose to increase the number of ProTeams entitled to participate in WorldTour races to 19.

On April 2, the UCI passed this exemption to the Giro d’Italia – rules for the maximum number of athletes participating in a race was previously 200 and with 18 ProTeams – so that in 2013, 207 riders and 19 ProTeams and 4 Professional Continental Teams will start.

Denis Menchov is expected to lead the Katusha team as Joaquím Rodriguez focuses on the Tour de France.

The following 23 teams will participate at the Giro d’Italia:
