The Six Days of Ghent is getting ready to welcome cycling super star Mark Cavendish next month. The Brit will form a strong pair with crowd favouirte Iljo Keisse. However, Cav has never been at his best in the Belgian race.

Cavendish has done the Six Days of Ghent twice: in 2005 with Robert Hayles and in 2007 in Bradley Wiggins.

"For the Six Days of Ghent it is great that such a name is again at the start. For me it is a dream to ride with him," said Iljo Keisse to Sporza.

"But that does not mean that the winners are already known. The competition is fierce and it comes mainly from De Ketele and De Buyst. Moreover, much has changed for me. My focus has shifted to the road. I still like to ride but I just take it as it comes.

"For Cavendish it is the same. His roots lie on the track but the only thing that really matters for him is the road. The Six Day is an ideal way to work after his crash in the Tour."

There is no doubt about the motivation of Keisse who rides in front of his home crowd in Ghent. But what about Cavendish? In his previous participations, the Briton didn't leave the best impression.

"In the past, the Six Days of Ghent were not a great success, that's true. I asked him to arrive in Ghent with a good condition. He assured me that he is working hard and that he will do his best will do. This week he comes to Belgium so that we can train on the track together."
