Wilco Kelderman still has problems with his back. The young LottoNL-Jumbo rider crashed several times in the first week of the Tour de France and since then he has been suffering. "I try not to think too much about what happened, otherwise I would still be depressed," said Kelderman told AD .
"That back still feels bad even though it seems to have become better during the last few days. It feels very stiff, especially when I wake up in the morning. I feel that I have a lot of muscle pain in my whole body. I hope it improves in the coming days, because as the back is now, I wonder if I can climb. There's much pressure on it when I am standing in the pedals. I do not want to dwell on it but if it is so bad, I should maybe call it quits."
The 24-year-old rider started as a co-leader alongside Robert Gesink. After the opening weekend, his GC chances have been ruined. Since then, he has been riding at the back.
"I have been riding at the back of the pack so I have had a chance to see what's going on there. Frankly I do not understand that some riders prefer to ride there. You are there with the other injured riders. Every day we ask each other about the state of the injuries."
