After two outstanding performances in the Ruta del Sol’s summit finishes, Peter Kennaugh has proven his good form and shown that he is one of the best climbers in the peloton.
“I’m a lot further ahead than I was this time last year,” Kennaugh told Cyclingnews after stage 4, as he warmed down outside the Team Sky bus. “My consistency has been really good, starting off well in the Tour Down Under, not playing catch-up as I was last year.”
“I did a lot of work in the winter. I had a good block in January with the Tour Down Under too.”
Kennaugh is building up to hopefully lead Team Sky at some races in 2015, as well as to make the Tour de France team to support Chris Froome.
He is in great form and will look to continue his good results at his next races: Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-Sanremo, E3 Harelbeke, the Tour of Flanders and the Ardennes Classics. Then a break followed by the Dauphine and then the Tour.
“That’s if it all goes to plan, but you never know. I’m sitting here telling you this now, but three months from now it could be a very different programme.”
