After his splendid job on Saturday, Pete Kennaugh (Sky) had a start to remember after crashing early on Sunday. At the end of the stage the Manxman reflected on the events of an explosive day.
“I went down at 40k an hour and that was all I knew,” he explained on the team website. “I was just stuck in the ditch. Because I fell to the left I don’t think many people saw me. I was thinking ‘I need to get out of here’ as I could see the cars going past above me one by one. “I managed to get myself up and out and checked everything was alright with my bike. We had the second car which got me going again. I was just a bit worried because the race was so on. And I knew I’d been sitting in the hedge for maybe a minute or so. I was just worried about what was going on up front and trying to get myself back in the race. “I have a sore shoulder and a bit of road rash but we live to fight another day.”
