Vasil Kiryienka, who won the individual time trial at the road world championships in Richmond, Virginia, United States, has spoken to Sky Sport News about the Olympic event. The Team Sky rider explained that the individual time trial is really difficult but he thinks that there will be a lot of contenders
"Froomey is definitely one of the favourites, but if you consider the terrain and the difficulty of the time trial, it will not be just the usual candidates with a chance of winning. There will be other guys who can do really tough time trial courses who will come into contention", the Belarussian explained. "I am definitely not going to have the time or possibility to go out and see the course, but I have got a video and I think that is an advantage."
He will try to win all of time trials at the Giro d'Italia. The first ITT is 9.8km and flat, the second 40.4km and rolling, and the third 10.8km and uphill. But he will help his GC leaders too. "I am starting this year as I would any other year, working hard for the goals of my team leaders. Of course, the Olympic time trial is a goal for myself, but I am also looking forward to helping to achieve the team's goals. My preparation for the Olympic will depend on what races I do after the Giro, and that will dictate the amount of specialist training I am able to do."
