Ramon Sinkeldam sprinted to 9th as Roy Curvers made the day’s break on stage 3 at the Ster ZLM Toer. Andre Greipel took his second victory of the week.
With start and finish in Buchten, stage 3 in the Ster ZLM Toer GP Jan van Heeswijk counted 190.5km. The day’s route covered parts of the Amstel Gold Race with a total of 11 registered climbs.
Curvers was part of the large breakaway group of 10 riders, who spend their day in the front. With 5km to the finish, the escapees were caught and a more or less complete peloton sprinted for victory in the streets of Buchten.
For the second day in a row, Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) was the fastest. Sinkeldam finished 9th and Zico Waeytens 16th. In the general classification, Greipel is still the leader and Sinkeldam is ranked 12th.
“It was a difficult day with lots of turns and short climbs. In the sprint my position wasn’t good so I got no further than a 9th place, which is quite disappointing for me because I aimed for more," Sinkledam said.
Coach Marc Reef added: “We had Roy in the break which was according to plan and good because we didn’t need to chase. Roy was among the strongest in the group and they almost made it to the finish.
"In the meantime, we prepared the sprint for Ramon but they were unable to deliver him into a good position.”
