Marcel Kittel (Argos-Shimano) already was the sprinter with the most stage wins in this Tour: He won in Bastia, Saint-Malo and Tours. And now he added a victory on the Champs-Élysées to that.
“I am so proud of how we prepared the sprint,” said Kittel after the stage. “I have no words for it, actually. This is like a dream come true for me. I honestly didn’t expect this and I'm really proud about it.”
The Argos-Shimano train executed a perfect lead-out, putting Kittel through the last corner on the Place de la Concorde ahead of Greipel and Cavendish. And the German pointed out the teamwork behind his victory: “It takes a lot of work. We train a lot and it's also a lot of planning and analysing. We are a really close group as a team and we did a great job in preparing the sprint. We did an analysis of the last years of the Champs-Elysées to see how the sprint works in theory and I think that helped a lot today.”
