Yesterday Leopold König climbed solidly in the queen stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné and moved into 11th in the overall standings. His team is hopeful that he will move into the top 10 in today's final stage of the race.
With an attack over the last two kilometers of yesterday's pinnacle stage of the Criterium du Dauphiné from Ville-la-Grand to Finaut-Émosson, Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) took the yellow jersey of the overall leader. The stage winner at the end of the 161.5 kilometers was Lieuwe Westra (Astana). The 31-year-old Dutchman was part of the 16-rider leading group, in which NetApp-Endura once again had a representative in Daniel Schorn. Westra crossed the line just ahead of his fellow escapees Yuri Trofimov (Katusha) and the latter's teammate Egor Silin. The overall leader Alberto Contador took fourth place. Leo König was 14th across the stage finish line and that puts him in an excellent 11th place overall with just one day to go.
"The whole team rode a very good race today. Leo managed to hang on to the favorites up to the final kilometers. He did really well and we are very happy with him. Tomorrow is certainly going to be another difficult day. On the one hand the final climb is not as demanding as today. But on the other hand we can expect a battle for the tour victory, which will make the racing hard overall. As a result there will of course be the opportunity for changes in fourth to twelfth places. The top 10 is within range for us and that keeps things exciting," said Enrico Poitschke after today's stage.
