Vattenfall Cyclassics was today won by Argos-Shimano's John Degenkolb, but they got a bitter-sweet taste after the race when an x-ray confirmed that Koen De Kort has broken his collarbone.
This isn’t the first visit to hospital for the Team Argos-Shimano rider who was part of the successful Tour de France line-up having already broken a collarbone in the Tour of Qatar earlier this year.
“This is a big disappointment for me personally today,” said Koen de Kort from the hospital in Germany. “I was sat near the front of the peloton together with John and someone on the right crashed and took me with him.
“It wasn’t the same pain as I felt after my crash in Qatar earlier in the year where I broke my collarbone as well, but the race doctor had a look and in the hospital they confirmed that my left collarbone was broken.
“I was just starting to feel really good again after the Tour and I still had some goals left for this year. Now I will take time to fully recover and see if there is something to work for towards the end of the season.”
De Kort will now take some time off to recover before starting his rehabilitation.
