Ignatas Konovalovas (FDJ) was in a class of his own at the Lithuanian time trial championships. Beating Paulius Siskevicius (Staki) by a massive 3.09 and Darijus Dzervus (Staki) by 3.41, he took his fifth title and finished for the podium for the tenth time during the last eleven years.
Ignatas Konovalovas may no longer be the time triallist he was when he won the final TT at the Giro d'Italia in 2009. However, he remains one of the best in his home country of Lithuania.
Konovalovas first finished on the podium in 2005 and since then he has only missed out on the top 3 once - in 2011 when he skipped the race. He took the title in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2013 but in the last two years he has seen Ramunas Navardauskas take the spoils.
This year Navardauskas skipped the race and so Konovalovas went into the race as the clear favourite. He left no doubt about his superiority on the 33km course in Ignalinoje as his time of 40.38 was a massive 3.09 faster than the one of second-placed Paulius Siskevicius. Darijus Dzervus was 32 seconds further behind in third.
Konovalovas now sets his sights on the road race where he hopes to take his first title.
