Today Lithuanian Ignatas Konovalovas won his first stage race as a pro. Third in the first stage, the rider of Team Marseille 13-KTM was able to complete all the stages with the first and so won the 4 Days of Dunkirk with 14 seconds of advantage over Bryan Coquard and 31 seconds over Alo Jakin.
" The highest ranked of the breakaway was 12 minutes behind so we did not move before entering the circuit. At that time, it was better to be in front as we wanted to avoid the fight for position," he said.
For Konovalovas, today's stage was all about not losing time and he did well by finishing in 27th in the same time as winner Edward Theuns . After the finish, he said he was"proud" to be "the first Lithuanian to win this race."
"We are a small country but we have a great story in cycling" , he continued, before talking about his personal ambitions. "I hope this success will spark som interest among World Tour teams and allow me to get back to racing at high level next year, especially in the classics."
