Kristijan Koren found himself in a rare position to sprint for the win when he had joined the right three-man break in the GP Beghelli. Having finished second in the race, the Slovenian regretted not having been able to give his Cannondale team a gift in its final European race.
Kristijan Koren had to surrender only to Valerio Conti (Lampre - Merida) in the GP Beghelli, finishing in second place. Immediately after the podium presentation, the Cannondale rider told Spaziociclismo that he was "satisfied" even though he had hoped to "do more and give a gift to the team."
The Slovenian knew that in the case of "sprint finish" it would be "difficult to get in the top 10" so all day he had decided to attack in "the last kilometre". In the last five kilometres he saw that the "group has a bit tired" and he tried, "holding on to the finish line."
As for his future, Koren revealed that he will "continue with the new Cannondale team next year."
