Raymond Kreder had hoped to make it two in a row in today's sprint stage of the Tour de l'Ain but today he had to settle for seventh. The Dutchman had run out of team support in the finale.
Yesterday Raymond Kreder took a big victory when he won the first stage of the Tour de l'Ain. Today he had hoped to take another one in the final sprint stage of the race but he finished back in 7th.
"I missed me a man to bring me into position," he told Directvelo. "1.5km from the finish I was alone. Then I had to ride in the wind. I started too late, I was already dead. I wish I had taken Gianni Meersman's wheel, but there were already five or six fighting for that position. I tried but my chance was missed in the last corner. You had to be in the top five, and I was seventh.
"I missed my chance today. My legs were good though. But when you're alone, it's hard to stay ahead. I wasted the forces that I missed in the end.
"Tomorrow, I want to help my teammates. Then Saturday, I'll see how my legs are. I will try to hang on as long as possible and then we'll see. After the Tour de l'Ain, I will go to the Vattenfall Cyclassic and then Plouay."
