Roman Kreuziger is ready to face the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which will make the final decision in his case concerning irregularities in his biological passport in 2010 and 2011 when he ran for Astana.
The Czech rider from Tinkoff-Saxo insists that he is innocent. "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." I’ve never doped. Keep your fingers crossed for me!" he wrote on Twitter today on the National Day of the Czech Republic.
Last week, the International Cycling Union (UCI) and World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed to CAS the decision by the Czech Olympic Committee to acquit Kreuziger after he had been provisionally suspended in August. The rider returned to racing in October. With the appeal, his fate now now depends on the course Lausanne which has so far never ruled against the biological passport.
The UCI notified Kreuziger about his irregular values last year. He has always maintained his innocence andhired two independent medical experts who determined that the fluctuations in his blood values were not abnormal nor indicated an anti-doping rule violation. However, the UCI did not accept his claims and in July, shortly before the Tour de France, his suspension was announced. The rider appealed to CAS as he wanted to rider the Vuelta a Espana but the court ruled against him. In September, the Olympic Committee ruled that he had not violated any anti-doping rules and that he was allowed to compete. Now he has to wait for the CAS decision before he gan return to racing and support Alberto Contador in 2015.
