After finishing third in last year's edition of the race, Roman Kreuziger will return to the Tour de Suisse as he finalizes his preparation for the Tour de France. The Czech won't just use the race for training as he targets a repeat of his 2008 win in the event.
Saturday the 14th of June, Tour de Suisse is on the calendar and Tinkoff-Saxo wont’t just be cruising the Swiss roads to enjoy the joy of the mountainous terrain. With a strong line-up, they are targeting a GC result as well as stages.
“Just like Dauphiné Libéré, Tour de Suisse is a warm-up race for Tour de France but we’re also here to achieve results. We have Roman as our leader and captain and we’ll see how far he can take it in the overall classification. We have a strong team to support him along the way and if the right situation occurs, we’re not holding any of our riders back in terms of shooting for stage wins as well,” says DS, Fabrizio Guidi.
The race kicks off with an individual time trial over almost 10 kilometers but with a climb that will create a bigger time difference than the length suggests. And there’s another, longer and even hillier individual time trial due in stage 7. In addition to the time trials, stage 2 and 3 are constant climbing while the race is decided in stages 8 and 9, which both have uphill finishes on an HC-category climb.
