Steven Kruijswijk, George Bennett and Primoz Roglic look ahead to representing team LottoNL-Jumbo and racing the Olympic road race today in Rio de Janeiro.
Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk said, “It’s a very special event. I want to play a decisive role and show myself. It’s my ambition to go for a medal. We have to see how we’re going to do it with the team. Bauke Mollema is in top form, as well. The profile, with all the climbs, is even harder than Clasica San Sebastian. I’m confident about my chances.”
“This is a beautiful new experience,” Slovenian Primoz Roglic added. “It’s impressive to be in one village with all the athletes. I speak with other athletes and try to meet new people as much as possible. Today, it’s just another race, on the other hand. It’s my target to make the most of it for Team Slovenia.”
"Being selected for the Olympics is really special,” New Zealander George Bennett said. “Cycling in New Zealand isn’t a big thing, but the Olympics are massive. For me it was a personal goal just to start and to be part of a dream. Everything you do comes down to this. Of course, I’m motivated for this big step in my career. It’s just me against the rest of the world."
