The classic will be the first major objective for Michal Kwiatkowski (1990) in his debut year with Team Sky, with the Tour de France and the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro his targets later in the season.
Kwiatkowski, the 2014 world champion, has confirmed his schedule to BiciCiclismo at the Media Day of Team Sky in Puerto de Alcudia: Challenge de Mallorca, Volta ao Algarve, Paris-Nice, Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and the Tour de Romandie form his program for the first part of the year. The surprise omissions are the Fleche Wallonne and the Tour of the Basque Country.
In the second part, he will do the Criterium Dauphiné and "in principle" be at the Tour de France to support Chris Froome. The 2016 Rio Games will be his next target.
Dressed in the rainbow jersey in 2015, he won the Amstel Gold Race and the prologue of the Paris Nice where he finished second. He also has victories at the Strade Bianche and the Volta Algarve on his palmares and he was second in the 2014 Tour of the Basque Country and third in the Fleche Wallonne and Liege that year,. He won gold at the World Team Time Trial Championships in 2013 and won silver in Richmond in 2015. He was 11th in the 2013 Tour de France and has twice been national champion.
In 2016, he will be riding for Team Sky after four years at Etixx-Quick Step (2012-2015) and previous stints in the RadioShack (2011) and Caj Rural (2010) jerseys.
