Having spent two seasons in the MTN-Qhubeka outfit, Sergio Pardilla decided to move to another team for 2015 season. Even though the 30-year old Spaniard hasn’t signed anything yet and called riding for the South African team an enriching experience, he claims that a change was needed as he needs bigger support in Grand Tour events.
Despite having turned 30 this year, Pardilla rode only four Grand Tours in his professional career and17th place overall in this season’s Vuelta a Espana was the best he has ever obtained in a three-week events. The MTN-Qhubeka captain insists, however, that he could have done much better if he had received a proper support from his team-mates, what it a main reason why he decided to change a team for 2015.
"Having a domestique to help me, perhaps I could have occupied a better position, or by getting into a breakaway," he said. "I was eager and I tried but getting into a break is very complicated."
Pardilla claims that he has several job offers to choose from, but refused to reveal which teams have shown interest in signing him. The 30-year old rider only hinted that he’s not considering any Spanish squad, even though he rode two seasons for Movistar before joining MTN-Qhubeka.
"We will choose something that suits me," Pardilla said.
