A strong performance in the four-day Tour du Limousin was crowned by Maurits Lammertink who took the victory in the final stage. It marked the first win in the history of Roompot Orange Peloton.
"This is obviously super", said Lammertink. "I was already close to Dunkirk and fortunately we succeeded at last. It is ery nice that we are now getting rid of this awful zero. We have all deserved this."
Etienne van Empel was part of the break of the day for a long time. They stayed away until late in the race and the young Gelderlander was awarded the prize for the most combative rider. Earlier in the week Maurits Lammertink had already been 9th in the opening stage and 4th in the second stage, showing that he can match the best in hilly terrain.
"It was the same finish as two years ago when I also rode well. The last three kilometers went slightly uphill which is ideal for me. And then Michel Kreder also gave me another perfect lead-out. I knew that I could make it in the last 300 meters. Colbrelli (who finished second) was still close, but luckily I was able to keep him behind."
"I am very happy, it's my first win as a pro. This is also the first team win this season so it was appreciated. We always stayed focused, we knew it would come soon. I had good legs all day, and in all four stages. We knew that this finish was fine for me, so I was the protected rider today. The team did a good job, I thank them. This victory means a lot to me. "
In the overall standings, Lammertink finished fifth. Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani-CSF) was the strongest. With an 18th place, Michel Kreder made it two riders in the top 20 for Roompot.
