The first race ever on Italian soil for Roompot Orange Peloton immediately gave a result.. Maurits Lammertink finished second at the Coppa Sabatini. Moreover, the team had no less than three riders in the top 20.
The semi-classic around Peccioli in the province of Pisa was dominated by three escapees. Behind Cam, Zilioli and Vanoverberge, the Italian teams controlled the race. In the local circuits with a small climb to the finish, the orange riders rode near the front.
"The fact that the team believed in me is great," Maurits Lammertink said afterwards. "It was nice to see that there was confidence in me. Normally this kind of uphill finish suits me perfectly."
In the finale, Sjoerd van Ginneken attacked twice and this was the ideal springboard for Lammertink.
"Unfortunately I could not catch the Spaniard from Caja-Rural (winner Eduard Prades). I was a few meters short. Of course, I would have liked to win."
With 14th for Huub Duijn and Michel Kreder in 17th Roompot had a great debut in Italy. In the weekend, the will do Giro dell Emilia and the Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli.
