Strong wind ruled in the 2nd stage of Tour of Qatar, 187.5km from Al Wakra to Al Khor Corniche. The wind spread the riders along the course and after the early kilometers the peloton had been already split in several parts.
Lampre-Merida’s riders failed to make it into the lead group of 15 riders that battled for the victory in the final sprint. The best performance for the team was the one by the Portuguese champion Nelson Oliveira, who was 44th at 3’08”
.
Sports director Philippe Mauduit explained that: “We are not satisfied with today results but, as opposed to what we did in the first stage, today our riders have demonstrated to be a good group that could race as a united team.
"We were dropped from the lead group in the final part of the race because we had a lack of the necessary energies to be ready to battle in the key moment: this means that the condition of the riders can increase. Oliveira and Mario Costa were involved in two crashes that gave them abrasions and forced them to chase the peloton."
