The second summit finish in a row in the Spanish weekend crowned Rodriguez as the king of the Alto de Sotres. The summit of the demanding climb was reached 175,8 km after the start of the 15th stage of the Vuelta a Espana in Comillas.
It took 32 km to see the main breakaway of the stage leaving the peloton: 9 riders got clear but they could not reach an advantage larger than 3’50”.
In the front group there were no Lampre-Merida riders, despite their many attacksin the first part of the course. Durasek was one of the members of a first breakaway which, however, was soon caught by the peloton.
The peloton controlled the attackers and they neutralized their action on the final climb. The last former breakaway member to surrender was Zubeldia, who was caught 2 km from the finish line.
For Lampre-Merida, Nelson Oliveira confirmed his excellent condition as he stayed with the best until just 4km remained.
