With Sacha Modolo still not at 100%, Lampre-Merida went into the Brussels Cycling Classic with the plan to make the race hard. They were unable to prevent the bunch sprint finish and had to settle for 12th with Niccolo Bonifazio.

As Sacha Modolo is still recovering from his crash at the Eneco Tour, Lampre-Merida were not confident in a bunch sprint finish in the Brussels Cycling Classic. Hence, they tried to send Luca Wackermann off in an attack in the finale.

However, it all ended in the expected bunch gallop and here Andrea Palini tried to position young sprinter Niccolo Bonifazio who struggled on the uphill finishing straight and had to settle for 12th.

"We did not succeed in being protagonist of the race, except for some moments like the attack by Wackermann 20km from the finish but it did not receive the necessary freedom by the bunch," sports director Orlando Maini explained. "For the GP Fourmies, we'll need more grind to try to obtain a good result".
