Today, the Italian Team Lampre-Merida was starting their journey to the land of Argentina. The purpose of this travelling is to be a part of the UCI race Tour de San Luis; a very popular season opener for many of the more GC-minded riders of the peloton. But as you’ll see from Lampre’s squad it is very popular for sprinters as well.
The team will definitely have the Polish rider Przemyslaw Niemic as their captain for the mountainous stages of the race, strongly supported by upcoming Italian Mattia Cattaneo and neu-pro Luka Pipernik.
And for the flat stages the team will also bring a strong package of riders. Sacha Modolo and home soil rider Maximiliano Richeze. The last rider of the squad will be Filippo Pozzato, a strong rider to have generally.
For Sacha Modolo it will be a happy visit down memory lane. The young Italian sprinter won a stage in the race last year and will be one of the favourites for the flat stages. The race will also be a debut for Luka Pipernik in the Lampre jersey.
"Tour de San Luis is the first important test at the beginning of the season for checking the condition of the cyclists,” sport director Maini explained. “The quality level of the starting list makes it even more interesting when looing at the results we aim to obtain in the race".
