After a very successful first half of the season highlighted by finishing the Giro 6th overall, followed by no less than disappointing performances in Tour the France and Tour de Pologne, Lampre – Merida’s Przemysław Niemiec recognizes La Corsa Rosa as his main target for 2014.

“Next year again, my highest priority will be the Giro d'Italia. Next year's race course looks worse than the last, especially the third week will give a hard time.”

“I have already spoken with Giuseppe Saronni about the new season, I told him that I wanted to ride the Giro and it suits him.”

Apparently Polish domestique disagrees with a general opinion of next year’s route being a well-balanced one as he intends to start an early build-up with racing in South America.

“My racing calendar will be composed during the first training camp in early December. It should be similar to this year’s, thus I may begin the season in Argentina”

Although it was not spoken directly, the remainder of the race calendar is unlikely to resemble this year's schedule. Instead, Niemiec indicates Rui Costa and Diego Ulissi to become team’s main contenders for Tour the France.

“Although our squad for next year may change, we should be well secured for major races. We’re going to have Rui Costa for Tour de France, with Diego Ulissi being another option as he’s progressing in an impressive way.”

33-years old cyclist reflects on the last season which he describes as the best and most fruitful in his career as a professional. Nonetheless his age, Niemiec claims to have high ambitions and a hunger to make further improvements on his latest results.

“This year has made me understand that with the right approach, I am able to ride smooth and well in three-week races. I want to go down this road and ride again next season, a Grand Tour at a high level. I've run this year's victory, but I'm hungry for success and will try to win in 2014”
