The final last stage of the Vuelta a Espana was a honour parade for Lampre-Merida, whose riders were among the most important actors during the three weeks of the Spanish race.
The riders who were directed by the duo Maini-Vicino obtained two victories (Oliveira in the 13th stage and Plaza in the 20th stage, both at the end of solo attacks) and two second places (Koshevoy and Oliveira), in addition to the fact that the blue-fuchsia-green riders were in the most important breakaways 16 times.
In the charming scenario of Madrid, Maximiliano Richeze was the rider who tried to achieve a top result in the final sprint, obtaining 6th place (victory for Degenkolb).
Nelson Oliveira is the best rider from the team in the overall classification: he's 21st at 44'24".
"The main target of the team at the start of the Vuelta was to approach each stage with a battling spirit, trying to be in as many breakaways as possible and trying to giving value to the qualities of our riders,” sports director Orllando Maini explained. “Niemiec, who was our main rider for the overall classification, had to quit the race soon, luckily he's recovering well and he's already back on the bike, so we had to focus our attention even more on the breakaways, obtaining such beautiful results".
