The Spanish rider of Astana Mikel Landa finished third on the queen stage of the Spanish race Vuelta a Burgos. He was away from the rest of the guys with Nairo Quintana and Dani Moreno at the end of the stage, but was beaten by the two riders.
Nairo Quintana rode the stage in a perfect way and turned out to be the victorious after beating Moreno and Landa on the final climb. Landa’s team-mate Janez Brajkovic finished fifth with Paolo Tiralongo in his tail as 6th.
Landa says the race profile fits him well as the climbs aren’t too long and with a tough final kilometre.
“Three years ago I won my first race here – it’s perfect for me, not too long, and with a final km that is really hard. We were three, nobody could move, I attacked alone – but in the last 400m Quintana passed me,” he said to the Astana website.
In the overall GC Astana has Janez Brajkovic as fourth, Valerio Agnoli as fifth and fellow countryman Paolo Tiralongo as sixth.
