After the closure of the Tunnel du Chambon in April for technical reasons, the route connecting the Col du Galibier with Bourg d’Oisans and Alpe d’Huez has been total cut off. So, according to L’Equipe, organiser ASO has to modify the penultimate stage of the 2015 Tour de France from Modane to Alpe d’Huez.
This is not something that organisers are not used to, since snowfall at altitude has been known to change stage routes at the last minute in the past.
“The stage isn’t at risk and the Tour de France stage will finish at L’Alpe d’Huez but via which way is not yet clear,” Jean-Pierre Barbier, the head of the L’Isere council told L’Equipe.
The most likely alternative route would see riders heading back down the Maurienne Valley and back over the Col de La Croix de Fer, before passing through Allemont and on to Bourg d’Oisans and up the Alpe d’Huez.
