On the day when Andrew Talansky left the race, Sebastian Langeveld proved that Garmin-Sharp is still a part of this year's Tour de France. The Dutch champion was part of the early break in stage 12 and was pleased to have showed that the team is still alive.
Garmin-Sharp went into the Tour de France with full focus on GC leader Andrew Talansky but after the American has crashed out of the race, the team has had to refocus on stage wins. Today Sebastian Langeveld put the team in the spotlight by joining the early break.
"It was not easy to get clear," he told NOS. " It was a sudden opportunity. I told Simon (Clarke) that he should go if I could not keep up with him. It was suddenly., I had already told Simon to go if I could not keep it up."
Langeveld was involved in a crash when David De La Cruz brought him down at the midpoint. He had to complete the stage on his spare bike.
"Everyone has a favourite bike," he said. "It has to fit you perfectly. Otherwise it is annoyning."
However, he does not blame his lack of success on the crash.
"No, the damage was not too bad," he said. "All in all it was a positive day. We have shown ourselves. That is what I had planned to do."
