Pablo Lastras returns to competition next week at the Tour de San Luis (Argentina). On September 6, the Spaniard suffered a fall at full speed during the 13th stage of the Tour of Spain. The results were traumatic: broken clavicle, scapula and left second rib. His reunion with the peloton arrives ahead of schedule, having to replace his partner Dayer Quintana, who can not travel to Argentina in order not to have the documents required to enter the country.
"I was doing my Pilates session when I got the confirmation that I was going to debut a month earlier than expected," says Lastras. “Am I'm ready? Of course I am. They have been hard months of rehabilitation to overcome pain and make good training," he adds.
The rider of San Martin de Valdeiglesias has new objectives and challenges in what will be his 17th professional season and the twentieth in the team of Eusebio Unzue. "The biggest goal is to recover a competitive level again like in 2011 and, especially, to teach the team that anything is possible," says Lastras.
His debut in 2014 coincides with his 38th birthday, January 20. "It seems that everything has been an accumulation of events and hopefully confirmation that I can finally give back to things," said the veteran racer.
After the Tour de San Luis, Lastras will return with the rest of his teammates for the official presentation of the team at the headquarters of Telefónica in Madrid. His meets calendar for this season: "Although I am for what the team wants, I would like to repeat in Andalusia, Murcia, Almería. Then, surely, for me the Italian tour with Strada Bianche, Lazio, Tirreno, Nobili and San Remo. After I will probably ride Ghent, Estella and Amorebieta, to pursue a concentration in altitude and the Giro d' Italia, " Lastras says.
