Pablo Lastras (Movistar) has been disqualified from the Eneco Tour for holding onto a team car during today's third stage of the race. He now misses out on the opportunity to impress the team management which will make its final decision on the Vuelta roster at the end of the 7-day race.

Pablo Lastras was included in the Movistar pre-selection which was announced earlier this week and the veteran is in the running for a spot on the roster that is set to support Alejandro Valverde in his home race. However, the veteran's hopes of lining up in the race has been dealt a big blow today when he was disqualified from the Eneco Tour.

The race marked his final chance to impress the team selectors but the Spaniard will now travel home earlier than expected. Apparently, he held onto a team car in today's third stage and the jury has decided to eliminate him from the race.

In general, Lastras was plagued by bad luck in the Dutch/Belgian race. He suffered a late puncture on stage 2 and fell out of GC contention as a consequence. He had hoped to earn his spot through a strong showing in the hilly stages in the weekend but will now have to use different means to convince the team management to include him on the roster.

Lastras won a Vuelta stage when he beat Sylvain Chavanel in a sprint on the stage 2 of the 2011 edition of the race.
