In his fourth Tour de France, Cyril Lemoine enjoyed the most beautiful moment of hic cycling career when he conquered the mountains jersey by being the fastest sprinter in an early breakaway. Enjoying his time in the spotlight, the Cofidis rider admits that he won't keep his lead all the way to Paris.
Known as a fast sprinter and a solid time triallist, Cyril Lemoine has never excelled in the mountains but yesterday he excelled in unusual terrain. Having joined the early breakaway in the second stage of the Tour de France, the Cofidis rider used his fast sprint to win most of the KOM sprints and earned himself a stint in the mountains jersey.
With no climbs in today's third stage, Lemoine will get the chance to wear the polka-dot tunic for at least two days. However, he is under no illusions about his overall chances in the competition.
“It's a great pleasure to be the King of the Mountains," he said. "It's a pleasure for myself and for my team. We already tried yesterday. But we know we won't bring the polka dot jersey home at the end of three weeks, that's too hard for us.
"Today's breakaway was for this jersey as it was sure that the peloton would bring us back. All distinctive jerseys are important at the Tour de France. It's magic to have one!
"This is my fourth Tour. I've never seen as many people as here in England before. The crowd was amazing again today.”
