With the cobbled classics now behind us, it is time for a changing of the guards in the Northern Europe. While the powerful riders take a well-deserved rest, the explosive climbers enter the scene in the Ardennes classics. Tomorrow, it is time for the tradition warm-up race, the Brabantse Pijl, and you can follow all the action on CyclingQuotes starting at 15.00.
The Brabantse Pijl is a perfect bridge between the cobbles and the Ardennes classics. With 25 climbs - 15 of those inside the final 70km - perfect climbing skills are the main requirement for any quest at success in the race. However, the length of the hills is more comparable with that of the Flemish hellingen than what is found in the Ardennes, and the race is thus usually dominated by a mix of Ardennes specialists and the most explosive cobbles riders.
This year is no exception, and many of the riders who are expected to play key roles in the Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallonne and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege, are all on the start line. The race's big favourite is of course Peter Sagan who prepares for Sunday's great battle in the Netherlands after 9 days without competition. He will be challenged by a strong line-up led by 2011 champion Philippe Gilbert who wants to prove that he is back on track after participating in the Vuelta al Pais Vasco.
Starting tomorrow at 15.00, you can follow all the action here. Until then, you can prepare by reading our preview here.
