New Movistar rider Lobato talks about his recent move from defuncted Euskaltel-Euskadi team on BiciCiclismo.com. Lobato is really excited about the long term contract provided by Movistar team. Amongst the possible goals next season, the Andalusian rider is looking forward to the classics, and also picks out winning a stage in World Tour races as his primary target.
About his move to the World Tour winning team, Lobato says he was previously in talks with Pamplona-based Caja Rujal team, and then "suddenly, they called me and said 'pack your bags, you don't have to go to Pamplona, [and you can join Movistar team]', and not only that but [the contract] was for three years. It was the greatest joy I could enjoy."
Lobato points out the long term contract as the most important factor for him, as he says, "Since I became professional - in 2011 in Andalusia, I never had the opportunity to focus one hundred percent on the bike , I always had the uncertainty of next year." And now Movistar team offers him a perfect situation, the thing that he needs most---stability.
About the new teammates, Lobato says he knows quite well to most, as Movistar team contains mostly Spanish riders. Among them are former Spanish teammate in u23 world championship, Jesus Herrada, and former teammates Izaguirre brothers. Those familiar friends, in Lobato's mind, will help him settle quickly in the new team.
On the next season, the Andalusian rider wants to focus on his climbing ability most. Known as a sprinter who cannot climb completely, Lobato knows his main limiter is that most of the time he cannot just make the final sprint. He wants even more, though, as he wants to challange the classics, from cobbled classic Ghent Wevelgem, to ardennes ones like Amstel or Fleche Wallonie.
This season the sprinter brought home some good results for Euskatel-Euskadi team, with a stage in Vuelta a Castilla y Leon and victory in Circuito de Getxo classic. On next season, Lobato says "Winning a WorldTour test is my big goal." and he's already on the way to fulfill his target, "I have already started training two weeks ago because I want to start at 100% and do not want to miss any opportunity that presents itself." Movistar team now has 3 sprinters, other than Lobato, Rojas Gil and Enrique Sanz both can sprint quite well, and Lobato will surely hope he can best his compatriots in the victory column next season.
On his former team, Lobato has a fairly good opinion on them. "Adaptation could not be better. From the first camp, they welcomed me very well and I felt very composed throughout the season." Lobato attended the Tour of France representing the Basque team, "It was memorable being in the best race in the world." he got 3 top-10 results in the race, and he's very thankful on his team and teammates, "In the mass sprint, I did what I could, and my teammates too. I had the best race I could have."
