Juan Jose Lobato took a rare Euskaltel win when he repeated his 2011 win in the Circuito de Getxo which was the third and final event in a week of racing in the Basque Country. The sprinter was the fastest in the tough uphill finish and convincingly held off Armindo Fonseca (Bretagne) and Egoitz Garcia (Cofidis) on a hot day in the home region of his team.
Euskaltel whose future is under threat unless a sponsor is found in the near future, has not had much to celebrate this season but today the team's sprinter Juan Jose Lobato gave team management a rare opportunity to crack a smile.
After crossing the finishing line, Lobato praised the efforts that his teammates provided to set up his win. "My teammates have done a very good job today,” Lobato declared after his win. “They believed in me and worked hard all day to allow me to go for the win. This is their triumph as well as it is mine.”
Lobato also commented on the uncertainty surrounding the team.
“These are troubled times, for sure. Hopefully this victory can help clarify the situation and help us find a solution. I didn’t expect this victory because the feelings that I had this morning were not the best. I felt fatigue after the Tour, but I was aware that I have nice sprint that is suitable for the finale of this race and we have achieved a victory for the team and the fans ", Lobato concluded.
