Klaas Lodewyck will miss tomorrow's Belgian road race championships after the BMC rider broke his collarbone in last Wednesday's Halle-Ingooigem. The Belgian is expected to return to competition in four to six weeks.

BMC Racing Team's Klaas Lodewyck should be able to return to racing in four to six weeks after breaking his right collarbone in a crash on Wednesday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Max Testa said Saturday. Lodewyck was racing with the Belgian national team in Halle-Ingooigem in West Flanders when he hit a hole.

"I did not see the hole and my front wheel went into it and I flipped over," Lodewyck said. "I landed on my shoulder when I hit the ground and immediately felt the bone was broken."

Surgery for internal fixation of the fracture was performed Thursday by renown orthopedic surgeon Dr. Toon Claes, Dr. Testa said.

"We think Klaas will be back on the stationary bike in five to seven days, back to regular training in two or three weeks and back to racing in four to six weeks," Dr. Testa said.

Lodewyck, who most recently helped teammate Philippe Gilbert win Ster ZLM Toer, said it will be frustrating to miss Sunday's Belgian national road championships.

"That race was a big goal for me," he said. "I was hoping to be able to help Philippe or even go for my own chance. So it is a disappointing moment in my career."
