BMC rider Klaas Lodewyck has undergone successful surgery. The Belgian has been suffering from cardiac arrhytmia which has kept him on the sidelines since late July. "On Thursday he will undergo a cycling test to see whether the problem has definitely been resolved," his fiancée Femke Herygers tells Sporza.
In late July, the 26-year-old BMC rider Klaas Lodewyck was diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia. Lodewyck visited several hospitals and was also examined by Professor Brugada.
Initially, he had chosen the treatment suggested by the well-known professor, but Lodewyck eventually chose another heart specialist.
"The operation went well," his fiancée Femke Herygers told Sporza. "It was not a heart operation. The cause of the arrhythmia has been found along the groin. Klaas must now rest and on Saturday he may leave the hospital."
Next Thursday Lodewyck will undergo a cycling test to see whether the arrhythmia problems have been resolved. "The doctors will then check whether the problem still shows up during heavy efforts," said Herygers.
"The operation is already successful, we now hope that the test works out as we hope. If that is not the case, we can still opt for the approach of Brugada."
