David Lopez (Team Sky) abandoned the Tour de Suisse on the queen stage and the reason was tiny but very painful: a tooth. He has been unable to recover from an infection and ended up leaving the race, without the strength to continue.
The problem started last Friday when he arrived in Switzerland.
"I went to the dentist and was told that it was difficult to solve," he tells BiciCiclismo. There were two possibilites: to skip the race or try to ride through the pain with medication. The Basque rider and his team opted for the second alternative.
However, the pain and the medication weakened him every day until he has finally put the foot down in the fifth stage. "Every day I was more and more dead," he admits.
Without the Tour de France on his calendar, he will now you enjoy a few weeks of rest before getting back in the Tour of Poland and meet to prepare for the Vuelta.
