Alberto Losada of Katusha suffered from a crash today as he has hit the deck during the last race of the Challenge Mallorca, Trofeo Platja de Muro.
The 31-year old Spaniard has lost control of his bike while descending from the second category Coll de Solles climb, situated on the 95 kilometer of the 162 km long route. As the rider admits himself, the accident could possibly bring fatal effects, as the helmet protecting his head was shattered in a consequence of cushioning all the power generated by an impact with a road surface.
"Once again I must thank my helmet, which has cushioned the blow. Fortunately I have no fractures and I just ended up with typical scrapes. Now I'm sore from the blows, but in a couple of days I think I will be in perfect condition to resume training," Losada told Spanish media.
Before gaining some understandable attention as a consequence of a seriously looking crash, Losada experienced a rather anonymous performance at the Trofeo Platja de Muro – the only race of the Challenge Mallorca he participated in, even though he has presented rather promising disposition as he finished 40th overall at the season’s opening Tour de San Luis and 32nd in the Dubai Tour.
