Lotto Soudal have extended the contract with three of its captains. Jürgen Roelandts will again be a leader in the cobbled classics while Tony Gallopin and Tim Wellens will continue to shine in the hillier terrain.

Lotto Belisol, next year Lotto Soudal, has extended the contracts of Jürgen Roelandts, Tony Gallopin and Tim Wellens until the end of 2017.

“We are very proud to announce the contract extensions of Jürgen Roelandts, Tony Gallopin and Tim Wellens," manager Marc Sergeant said. "Thanks to the effort of the four sponsors who have made a commitment from 2015 until 2020 – Lotto, Soudal, Ridley and Vermarc – we can be clear about the future. That is a luxury, which also brings responsibility. Results will be expected. Extending the contract of these three riders is an important step.

“Jürgen Roelandts is 29 and has been riding for this team his entire career. With an adjusted race programme he can perform on several terrains. On top of that Jürgen is a real team player. Tony Gallopin had a nice first season with our team. Tim Wellens had a big breakthrough this year. Because of the performances of Tim and Tony it’s obvious that other teams were interested, we anticipated. We’re on the right track for the future.”

“I have worked on my career in this team." Roelandts said. "The team offers me great opportunities. I can race with a clear goal in mind. Now and then during the past years I had bad luck. It feels good to be in this team and the team doesn’t want me to leave. We had good conversations. I will have a different race programme, so the focus lies even more on the spring; I won’t ride the Tour Down Under for example. This is to avoid that I’m too good too soon, so I can build up gradually to the Flemish spring races.”

“The past season I felt really good with this team and I had a great year, with July as high when I won a Tour stage and could wear the yellow jersey one day," Gallopin said. "My performances of 2014 fit perfectly  in the evolution of my career and I hope to continue this way with the team. It’s nice to be in this Belgian team, I get the opportunity to take my chances.”

“2014 is the year of the breakthrough for me," Wellens said.I" took my first win and that was in a WorldTour race: a stage win in the Eneco Tour and victory in the overall classification. This season was better than expected and just like previous years I set a step further than expected. This contract extension is a reward for all efforts. I want to give something back to the team for its faith in me.”
