The riders stayed in Bern on the second rest day and also today the Tour de France peloton will spend the whole day in Switzerland. There is no brutal start to the 17th stage, but a hard finale with a first category and hors catégorie climb right after each other will make things tough.
Lotto Soudal sports director Bart Leysen gives his preview.
“Today we head into the Alps, with a rather easy start and a very tough finale. In the last 30 kilometres the riders have to climb almost 25 kilometres. I hope that Tony Gallopin, Adam Hansen and Thomas De Gendt can show themselves the next days. Not specifically to reconquer the polka dot jersey, because Majka will probably keep a close eye on Thomas, but especially to aim for another stage win.
"For Tony Gallopin the stage on Saturday might be his best option, with the finish in Morzine. It are also important days for the GC riders. Froome’s opponents have noticed that he and his team are very strong. I think there is a chance that Froome will do a decisive move today to secure his third overall victory.”
