2015 was a great year for Lotto Soudal which won no less than 40 races. Next year the team wants to have a say in the spring. "This year we raced attractively but lacked the icing on the cake," said manager Marc Sergeant.
Lotto Soudal ends this year with brilliant figures: 40 wins (including four victories in the Tourde France) and ninth in the WorldTour ranking. "I can only be satisfied," manager Marc Sergeant told Sporza.
"In the spring, we made some crucial changes that have clearly worked," he added about the changed schedule for André Greipel and Jürgen Roelandts.
"The investment in our sprint train has paid off. Our four victories in the Tour say enough."
Next season Lotto Soudal says goodbyel to three riders (Jurgen Van den Broeck, Kenny Dehaes and Boris Vallée) and welcomes 3 new additions (Jelle Wallays, Rafael Valls and Tomasz Marczynski). "If you've had a year like ours, you should not change too much.
"The changes are reinforcements. Valls and Marczynski must score in one-week stage races, something we have lacked until now.
"With Wallays we have received an extra card to play in the spring. You're better off with three or four options in the finale. Now we were often isolated in the finale and then you can just follow.
"The ambition for 2016 is therefore to win a big spring race. Now we have raced very attractively but lacked the icing on the cake."
Sergeant does not think 2015 will be an exceptional peak.
"We have no fear of next year, we have a good team. We finished in the top 10 of the World Tour rankings and next season we will again end up in the left column."
