The 98th Giro d’Italia will come to an end today. The last stage is still quite long: 178 km. The peloton starts in Turin, European Capital of Sport 2015, and finishes in Milan where the Universal Exhibition 2015 is being held. There are no big obstacles in this last stage. At the end the riders have to cover seven local laps of 5.4 kilometres in Milan. Perfect for a bunch sprint.
“It’s a long stage to finish this Giro," sports director Bart Leysen said. "As usual it will be a very slow pace in the first phase. The race won’t begin before the local circuit. Sacha Modolo is the favourite to win today’s stage. He already won two sprints.
"It will be difficult to avoid a bunch sprint. Of course there will be attempts. Lars Bak or Adam Hansen might try something, we’ll see. But there’s only a small chance an escapee will take the victory.”
